About Electrolux: AB Electrolux is a world-leading producer of appliances and innovative kitchen and cleaning equipment for the home and professional use. Each year, Electrolux sells more than 40 million products under the brand names Electrolux, AEG-Electrolux, Zanussi, Eureka and Frigidaire to customers in 150 countries.
As part of the company’s commitment to deliver outstanding customer service, Electrolux partners with authorized technicians outside its organization to service and repair its branded products when needed. These service techs rely on the protective packaging and timely delivery of fragile equipment parts to quickly respond to their customers and successfully complete the service circle.
Project Overview:
As the parts manufacturer, Electrolux packages and ships to its authorized service technicians every year more than 1.5 million appliance and equipment parts, a portion of which are packaged using foam-in-place equipment. The packaging and shipping process is critical to the company’s supply chain and depends heavily upon both the abilities of Electrolux employees and the efficiencies of the foam-inplace packaging systems they operate.
After using the same foam-in-place packaging supplier for more than 20 years, Electrolux wasn’t looking to make a change. However, when challenged to experience the dramatic increase in packaging productivity and efficiency offered by the SmartBAGGER®, they agreed to put the system to the test.
The Solution:
The IntelliPack SmartBAGGER is advanced foam-in-place technology that’s truly worthy of its name. Ideally designed for high-volume, medium-to-large applications, the SmartBAGGER delivers protective void fill, blocking and bracing, and maximum cushioning protection for even the most fragile items. But what distinguishes the SmartBAGGER from any other foam-in-place packaging system is its built-in telemetry—a technology that allows for remote measurement and reporting of system performance, 24-hours a day, every day.
The SmartBAGGER’s Telemetry records productivity, tracks chemical use, reorders supplies and even contacts a service technician before a problem occurs so that the packaging process isn’t interrupted—or worse—shut down. After the SmartBAGGER was installed at Electrolux, the company assigned its top packaging operator to put the system to work at full capacity for six weeks.
The Result:
Not only did the IntelliPack SmartBAGGER stand up to the rigors of Electrolux’s heavy packaging demands, the system also provided the company with the checks and balances it was missing in terms of wasted materials and excess chemical use. In six weeks, the SmartBAGGER dramatically outperformed the system Electrolux had been using and is predicted to save the company more than $20,000 a year in waste.
